Installing the Totalview Desktop Client with the MSI Installer

Important

Only available when using Totalview Cloud.

The Totalview Desktop Client can be installed on user computers using the TotalviewClientInstaller.msi
Windows Installer package. This method is particularly useful for IT administrators who need to
automate deployments across multiple computers, integrate with software deployment tools (e.g., SCCM,
Intune, Group Policy), or enforce consistent software installations within an organization.
By using the MSI installer, administrators can control the installation process through standard
msiexec command-line parameters and Totalview-specific properties, enabling settings such as silent
installation, tenant configuration, and selection of optional features. The following sections provide
details on the commands and parameters available for performing an installation with the MSI package,
allowing for full customization of the installation experience.
  1. Download the TotalviewClientInstaller.msi file from <TenantName>.totalview.cloud/Api/ClientDownload/TotalviewClientInstaller

  2. Copy the installer to the target computer, using any software, and run it with msiexec (see other commands below)
    • E.g., msiexec /i TotalviewClientInstaller.msi TENANT_DNS="<TenantName>.totalview.cloud" TENANT_PORT="3350" /quiet

    • NB! TENANT_DNS and TENANT_PORT are required.

Available Command-Line Parameters for Installation

The TotalviewClientInstaller.msi package accepts standard msiexec options as well as the Totalview-specific properties listed below. These can be useful to system administrators, and to other programs calling the installer.

/i

  • Installs or configures a product. Usage: msiexec /i TotalviewClientInstaller.msi

/x

  • Uninstalls a product. Usage: msiexec /x TotalviewClientInstaller.msi

/quiet

  • Suppresses all user interface elements, including the progress window. Equivalent to a silent installation with no prompts or feedback shown to the user.

/l*v “logfile.log”

  • Creates a verbose log file of the installation, useful for troubleshooting.

TENANT_DNS=”value”

  • Specifies the DNS name of the tenant to connect to, e.g., TENANT_DNS="<TenantName>.totalview.cloud".

  • Required together with TENANT_PORT.

TENANT_PORT=”value”

  • Specifies the port number used to connect to the tenant, e.g., TENANT_PORT="3350".

  • Required together with TENANT_DNS.

Tip

If in doubt about which TENANT_DNS and TENANT_PORT values to use, the values can be obtained from the Totalview Cloud API. Query https://<TenantName>.totalview.cloud/api/v2/ClientsInstallerParams to retrieve the required information.
