Custom fields are set up in the Administration module under Custom Fields. In the demo database a custom field is called Division and looks like this:
In the demo database Tina Townsend and Joshua Williams are in the Development division and they will therefore be in the same group.
If “Visible in client” and “Allow filter” are both checked, a simple way to see who is in which group is starting a Totalview Client and using the filters in the right side. For example:

If the custom field is single valued no one can be in more than one group. Normally multivalued custom fields will be used. If then Division is set to multivalued it is possible to assign one person to both Sales and Support.
